Lowood (Stanford University), James Newman (Bath Spa University), Jaakko Suominen (University of Turku) et Gabrielle Tr\u00e9panier-Jobin (Universit\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al).<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/blockquote><div class=\"observation\"><div class=\"ludique\"><p>Qu\u2019il s\u2019agisse de litt\u00e9rature, de musique, de cin\u00e9ma ou d\u2019autres formes d\u2019art, la critique et la th\u00e9orie ont toujours progress\u00e9 main dans la main. Par la description, la classification et l\u2019\u00e9valuation, les discours critiques ont offert de la mati\u00e8re \u00e0 l\u2019analyse th\u00e9orique qui, en retour, a approfondi, remis en question et propos\u00e9 des m\u00e9thodes \u00e0 leur pratique. Ces discours ont fait l\u2019objet d\u2019une grande attention universitaire dans les \u00e9tudes du jeu, ce qui atteste de l\u2019influence des revues sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9es sur le d\u00e9veloppement de la culture vid\u00e9oludique, la d\u00e9signation des jeux vid\u00e9o phares et la d\u00e9finition de crit\u00e8res pour \u00e9valuer leur qualit\u00e9. Pourtant, il reste encore \u00e0 mener une \u00e9tude exhaustive \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle des paradigmes discursifs qui r\u00e9gissent cette pratique.<\/p><p>Ce projet de recherche analysera la vari\u00e9t\u00e9 et l\u2019\u00e9volution de la critique vid\u00e9oludique dans les m\u00e9dias imprim\u00e9s, en ligne et t\u00e9l\u00e9diffus\u00e9s afin d\u2019approfondir notre compr\u00e9hension du jeu vid\u00e9o en tant que m\u00e9dium technologique et artistique, examinant la r\u00e9ception des jeux vid\u00e9o de la fin des ann\u00e9es 1970 \u00e0 nos jours. Il se concentrera sur quatre zones g\u00e9ographiques : Canada, \u00c9tats-Unis, France et Royaume-Uni. Il couvrira quatre axes de recherche : la critique et la technologie, la critique et l\u2019art, les formes de la critique, et la critique et l\u2019industrie. Les r\u00e9sultats m\u00e8neront \u00e0 une meilleure vision de l\u2019impact de la communaut\u00e9 discursive journalistique sur les processus de l\u00e9gitimation des jeux vid\u00e9o et sur la formation de la culture vid\u00e9oludique. The World of Scary Video Games provides a comprehensive overview of the videoludic horror, dealing with the games labelled as \u201csurvival horror\u201d as well as the mainstream and independent works associated with the genre. It examines the ways in which video games have elicited horror, terror and fear since Haunted House (1981). Bernard Perron combines an historical account with a theoretical approach in order to offer a broad history of the genre, outline its formal singularities and explore its principal issues. It studies the most important games and game series, from Haunted House (1981) to Alone in the Dark (1992- ), Resident Evil (1996-present), Silent Hill (1999-present), Fatal Frame (2001-present), Dead Space (2008-2013), Amnesia: the Dark Descent (2010), and The Evil Within (2014). Accessibly written, The World of Scary Video Games helps the reader to trace the history of an important genre of the video game. Chapter 2 analyzes very closely how the label came to crystallize a common cultural consensus around what horror video games were, and was taken up as a universal term to name quite different games. It shows how the understanding of and the references to survival horror have not been the same, on the one hand, for journalists and reviewers who have witnessed its advent and followed the releases of games, and on the other hand, for scholars who aim to theorize and discuss these games in relation to a larger media landscape.
